Baby crushed by car containing China one-child policy team

BEIJING – A 13-month-old child was fatally crushed by a car containing Chinese officials after they went to collect a fine from the parents for breaching the country’s one-child policy, according to Chinese state media.

The incident reportedly occurred Monday in Dongshantou village near Wenzhou city in the eastern province of Zhejiang, after a delegation of 11 officials from the Ruian Town birth control office drove out to get the unspecified fine.

This did not go down well with the father, Chen Liandi, 39, and the conversation got heated.

According to a briefing given by the Ruian Municipal Propaganda Department and reported by state media, the officials convinced Chen’s wife, Li Yuhong, to accompany them back to Ruian to talk over the couple’s options.

The baby was reportedly left in the hands of his father and the group got back into their cars to leave.

What happened next remains unclear – perhaps due to the politically sensitive nature of this story – but the boy was then found crushed underneath a car.

He was rushed to the Third People’s Hospital in Ruian, but could not be saved.

'You were too careless'
On China’s Twitter-like service, Weibo, users expressed frustration over the vague account given by Ruian officials and demanded more information, but no other Chinese press have printed much beyond the official government account.

For many in China, the story brings back uncomfortable memories of Feng Jiemei, who last June posted gruesome photographs of her lying in a hospital bed next to her 7-month-old aborted fetus.

Feng’s story created a social firestorm for Beijing when word got out that the 22-year-old mother had been forced to have the abortion because she did not have enough money to pay the $6,400 fine for having a second child.

“I told you, $6,400, not even a penny less. I told your dad that and he said he has no money,” a family planning official wrote to Deng in a blunt text message that quickly went viral. “You were too careless, you didn’t think this was a big deal.”

Feng was grabbed from her home and taken to a local hospital in her native Shaanxi province where she was blindfolded, thrown on a bed and forced to a sign a document she couldn’t read. Thirty hours later, her baby girl was aborted.

China has long defended its one-child policy as a way to prevent overpopulation and to help raise living standards across the country.

However, some experts in China and abroad argue that the policy has outlived its usefulness and may instead be a detriment to future growth.

Others in China have pointed out the abuses meted out in cases like Feng Jiemei’s show that it causes more social harm and have called on Beijing to remove it.

However Beijing just last month reaffirmed its support for the policy.

I was in China 3 years ago, Beijing and a coastal city. The Communist Chinese Govt. will stop at nothing to control their people. This is an example of that. Those on this thread advocating a one child policy here are mindless control freaks just like the Communist leaders over there...no soul, no real reason, and no "Choice" Ironic...

I suggest Liberals/Progressives and Marxists be the first to kill their children and themselves after all it will save the planet right? you should be willing to lead by example...though through out history those on the left love to make you lead in front of their gun barrel. so step right up Liberals, please lead us by example show us how holy and learned you are, show the unwashed masses just how much you care by offing your children and yourselves.....were waiting.....

The Chinese One Child Policy was to a great extent created by Rockefeller money...they invested HEAVILY in China in the 40's to support Mao when the Nationalists were trying to rid the country of that form of what has become well documented barbarism. It is the Rockefeller desire that the whole of the world's peoples should be treated in this way. I have but one word to describe what their activities in the past century amount to: Filth. They are absolutely diabolical, as are many of the thieves who truly own and run governments - to include our own here in the US.

Actually, Rose, from what I hear it is working pretty well, since it has helped to raise China from a third-world backwater to a major power."

Actually, Cassandra, it's not working well at all, though China has a higher standard of living these days since abandoning Mao's utopia. In fact, China may well be the first laboratory for disposing of the elderly since there are not enough worker bees to care for the cost and well being of the elderly--low birth rate. Oddly, the US is headed in exactly the same direction which is why the importation of bees is being pushed by both political parties. The United States managed to achieve an extraordinary standard of living without "one child" tyranny and now is failing while headed in the other direction--low birth rate and millions of abortions. What a brave new world we're living in these days.

For those who say the world is overpopulated our government pays farmers not to grow certain food stocks. We waste enough food in the US every year to feed the rest of the world. We have the endless expanses of space to explore. If we could set aside greed and focus entirely on space exploration than on destroying each other with nukes we would have no problem. A loose interpretation of Genesis for the religious would make it seem that it is our God given duty to explore the universe he created. For our men and women of science our systematic departure from this planet would help local environments to recoup add to our wealth of knowledge, and solve our so called over population problem. Which I doubt is true given the large number of aging people across the globe. If there is not a large population die off we will reduce our population with war, or our governments will turn loose their stock piles of plagues and diseases, or the corporations will continue taking government money to introduce cancerous materials into our foods and everything we use in our daily lives so we die before we are supposed to.

Once again I find myself defending China. I am an American living there for a year or two, but never forever, I cannot live forever with their need for control.

This is one that NEEDS control, do not talk yourself into nonsense. They need it and they will still need it for some time to come. The population of China STILL grows at 8% annually in spite of this, and the historic cultural lean to males is making a horrible future-there will be within a generation 30 million young men who cannot find an available woman. What does that suggest to you?

One thing it suggests to me: this was an accident and as is usual of accidents it was a horrible accident. Nobody killed a toddler on purpose. The Chinese LOVE their single-or more-children as much as anyone I ever saw anywhere. They all cherish children, even the college students I teach here who cannot know yet what parenting means. The collective mind that is China cannot fail to appreciate its own future. In. Every. Child.

Pray or whatever it is you do for the parents here. Their loss is everyone's.

John, tell youself whatever you want but there is no excuse. 11 officials for 1 fine. Using simple logic, it was a horrible message if not more. To inforce this law is not love of a child nor is forcing abortion. Real love of these children would be sacrificing one's own needs to find a way that would and should allow these children to live and grow. We live in a world where anything is possible there is no need to force murder.

Let me ask this..... How many children since abortion became, "a way of life," that would one day have found the cure for Cancer, Alzheimer’s, AIDS, finding food to feed everyone at no cost, un-restricted free energy, alternative fuel that actually burns and helps the environment.... So many beautiful lives destroyed, some by choice, some by agreeing with the idea that, "eveyone does it" and by the far the worst, force.

China was once a country with many good values. However, they're all gone under a tyranny Communist government. All they care now is money and power over humanity. China has been killing innocent children and its people. It'll go down soon.

I think Utah has more rampant breeding practices than what China had. These people act like they're supposed to produce as many kids as humanly possible. Brag about it even. The sad part is the dependency on government programs (socialism) to pay for them.

When government takes control of health care, they can control your life. Don't worry america the affordable care act wont kick in until 2014. The costs of this new plan just keep going up and up every new estimate. The way to make it affordable is restrictions on service and care. Freedom is always better than government control. We are in for a painful lesson, how foolish when we only had to look at places like China to see the results of government control.

This is just a fake story to anti China. Western Media should take care of your own problems and stop telling the lie. Oh yeah, the story contributor is Le Li. Le is the fake last name of the Vietnamese. The Vietnamese are the Chinese, but betrayed the Chinese. In Tran Dynasty of Vietnam, many Tran changed their last name to Le and Nguyen. The Li are the betrayers. The Li forced his son to kill himself in Shang Dynasty of China. When the Song overthrew Jin Dynasty, a Li ran from Shaolin temple into Annam to betray China. That piece of crap betrayal Li ordered the execution of his Son.

Parents wouldn't -- or couldn't -- pay the fine, so the officials killed the child.

That's the only thing that makes sense.

The Chinese are idiots, because of their one child only policy and their backwards culture placing more value on men than women now they don't have any women. Hopefully the lack of women and the extremely high level of pollution will cull the Chinese menace.

The accident is tragic but good for China for sticking to its guns, they certainly shouldn't decide their own policies based on how a pack of bleeding hearts half a world away feel about it. All you bleating sheep foisting your morality on their policy have no idea how it is for them to deal with their overpopulation, I know that the states are strained enough as is and we have only a fourth of their numbers.
