Obama lookalike pitches for KFC in Hong Kong

Ok. We know the mainland Chinese have a thing for imitation goods.

But Hong Kong?

Thanks to the folks over at ChinaSmack, we’ve learned a little belatedly that a U.S. President Barack Obama lookalike was used in a KFC television ad to promote a new Fish Fillet Soft Roll. (The commercial was aired for a limited time in Hong Kong only just ahead of Chinese President Hu Jintao’s state visit to the U.S. last month.)

Change is good, says the advert.

He better believe it.

After all, he’ll be sending a new ambassador to China in the spring.

Btw, Yum Brands – a Louisville, KY, company which owns KFC – posted higher than expected quarterly earnings yesterday. It gets a third of its revenue from China, where it operates more than 3,700 restaurants, mostly KFC outlets.

The chickens used for their signature product are American.

It better be more than 35% chicken.

Did you have stock of Yum Brands like a lot American did. Chinese make a lot money for these stock owners. Don't be stupid.

When people looked at the coffin holding Elvis, not but three days later, he was gone! The coffin was empty.

Meat is meat. I would eat it if it were cat, rat or bat. It would probably taste better and be better for you if it were one of those animals since the chicken is raised in deplorable conditions from birth. So fire up the grill.

Of course the sandwiches are made in China and the people who work there are Chinese. The restaurants are in China. When we were there, we had KFC and Pizza Hut as we got tired of rice. It is not the same as in the states. They add some sort of spice that is appealing to the Chinese but that my family didn't care for. And the funny thing was that the "special" spice depended on the region of China. Seems that it was locality specific.

Actually though, the chickens that they use for KFC in China is actually imported from the US. The local (Asian) chickens are not good for frying. And I actually prefer the KFC's in Beijing over the ones in the US, the workers in China actually care to work for a "High Quality" American chain like KFC, Pizza Hut (The cheese is sour for some reason though), Burger King, McDonalds, etc. And actually care for cleanliness and quality of their products.

And a +1 is that the KFC Spicy Fried Chicken in China is actually spicy, unlike here in the US.

Just the fact that it was a KFC would make some people in this country shout racism. The reality is, there is nothing racist about the commercial. They are using an icon to promote their product. If Obama was an old white dude, they would do the same thing. Instead, Obama is half old white dude, and half old black dude. With a little luck, someday we will just look at somebody as an old dude instead.

I think the food was always greasy "finger lickin'", but now it just tastes terrible. Somebody forgot to put in the 11 herbs and spices or they left a bunch of them out. It is pathetic. If the Colonel were still alive he'd fire everyone running the KFC organization for allowing this to happen.

A friend of mine from way back worked at a KFC when we were kids. He said NEVER eat the bbq chicken. It leftovers from the day before and stuff dropped on the floor. The theory, at the time, was the bbq sauce covered it up. I can't eat there any more. My ex considered buying a bucket "cooking" dinner 3 nights a week. Haven't eaten there in almost 5 years.

Joe, your new balance sneakers may be assembled in the USA, but with chinese rubber and other pre-assembled components shipped from places like Vietnam. Even the "Made in USA" 996 model is made this way. I think to have the made in USA label you only need about 25% of labor and materials from the USA. I like you, attempt to buy American first, and was shocked to find this out. Only sneakers I have found that are actually assembled in USA with USA materials is Newton shoes out of Colorado.

I find this commercial very disrespectful as an American. No one has a problem with our president being crushed by a giant sandwich? I never patron KFC, but if I did I wouldn’t after seeing this unpatriotic attempt at humor by an American Corporation. How would the Chinese respond if President Hu Jintao was depicted being crushed by a giant egg roll in a Panda Express* commercial?

                              Just some food for thought.

I'm sick and tired of so many Americans condemning the 'poor quality' of Chinese products. If this is indeed the case, it certainly is a comment of the lack of judgment on the part of American consumers, since they buy so much of this 'junk', leading to China amassing so much U.S. money. I think the Chinese have mastered the ability to manufacture goods of reasonable and, indeed, good quality at attractive prices. I have every confidence that Americans possess the common sense of not wasting their hard-earned money when buying their goods. I don't think that they love accumulating 'junk' in exchange for their money.

“mastered the ability to manufacture goods” that’s F-ING funny!

Hey, there’s a nice little company in Petersburg VA that would argue that point with you. The get the lucky job of resurfacing cabinets from China, you know the ones you see in the big box stores and whole sale distributers. Your know your local US contractor supply house!

Go figure we didn’t have to do that when it was made in America, sorry I know this because I use to manufacture the coatings.

You may also look at and Formica countertops, floor covering wall paneling and wall paper from your brethren. They very seldom if ever meet the fade, stain, heat resistance and cleaning products resistance testing of the counter part MADE IN AMERICA you idiot!

                                                Just saying!
